Great Start Book Scholarship

The Great Start Book Scholarship was established in 2002 by Wayne College librarian Elys Kettling, based on the following rationale: While many traditional scholarships cover the cost of a student’s college tuition, few cover the cost of the textbooks required for those courses. For financially challenged students to have the best opportunity for academic success, they need all their textbooks at hand on the first day of class. Beginning in the fall of 2003, this scholarship will provide assistance for at least one Wayne College student each semester (fall and spring) who is enrolled in at least six credit hours. The scholarship is a one-time award per student and may be up to $300 toward the purchase of that semester’s textbooks from the Wayne College Bookstore. Applicant must have a demonstrated financial need and provide a statement (up to 300 words) indicating the real value of this scholarship award. Scholarship recipients are to be determined by the Wayne College Financial Aid Specialist and his/her designee(s).
