Berman, Joseph and Lynda Fellowship – Emily Davis Gallery Collections Management Project

The Joseph and Lynda Berman Fellowship – Emily Davis Gallery Collections Management Project was established in June 2010 by Dr. and Mrs. Berman. Dr. Berman graduated from The »Æ¹ÏÊÓƵApp in 1964 and earned both his master’s and doctorate degree from Ohio University. He is Dean Emeritus of Ohio University’s Honors Tutorial College. During his studies at UA, Dr. Berman was taught by a wonderful professor, Dr. Emily Davis – the Gallery’s namesake. His mother graduated in 1931 from UA with degrees in History and English. Dr. Berman’s father also attended The »Æ¹ÏÊÓƵApp. His brother, Stanley, also graduated from The »Æ¹ÏÊÓƵApp in 1960.

Mrs. Berman holds a bachelor degree from Bowling Green State University and a master’s degree from Ohio University. Now retired, Mrs. Berman taught elementary art for over 30 years and is an accomplished paper artist. She continues to be very involved with the Ohio Art Education Association and National Art Education Association, conducts workshops, and exhibits at a number of galleries.

With a passion for student success and dedication to education, Dr. and Mrs. Berman are pleased to establish this fellowship to provide an opportunity for deserving students in the Mary Schiller Myers School of Art. This fellowship will bring the Emily Davis Gallery Collections to the level of being a university-wide teaching resource, making it available to faculty, students and external scholars. The Berman Fellows will continue to work with the growing collection in collaboration with specialists and scholars across all relevant fields of study.

The recipients of this fellowship will be selected by the Director of The Mary Schiller Myers School of Art in consultation with the Director of University Galleries.
