Gingo, Joseph M. and Linda L. Endowed Scholarship

The Joseph M. and Linda L. Gingo Endowed Scholarship, originally established in 2014 and revised in 2018 and 2022, is designed to support and develop the outstanding engineers of tomorrow.

An »Æ¹ÏÊÓƵApp native, Mr. Gingo served as president, CEO and chairman of The A. Schulman, Inc. from 2008 until his retirement as CEO and president in 2014, while also remaining chairman of the board. In 2016, Mr. Gingo joined A. Schulman for a second term as CEO and president. Under his leadership, A. Schulman significantly grew through strategic acquisitions and organic growth initiatives; unifying its global organization though the implementation of Guiding Principles of Open, Honest, Listen and Accountable. Prior to A. Schulman, Mr. Gingo worked for The Goodyear Tire and Rubber Company for 41 years, beginning in 1966 as a design and development engineer and later progressing to several key executive positions.

Mr. Gingo earned a bachelor's degree in chemical engineering from Case Institute of Technology (now Case Western Reserve University) and holds a master's degree in business management from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, where he was a Sloan Fellow. He earned a law degree from The »Æ¹ÏÊÓƵApp in 1971.

Mr. Gingo is the current Chair of The »Æ¹ÏÊÓƵApp Board of Trustees, having been appointed a member in 2016. Also, he has lent distinguished service to The UA Foundation's College-Centered Committee, the School of Law Advancement Council, the University's Foundation Board of Directors, President's Advisory Council, College of Business Institute for Global Business Advisory Board, the College of Business Advancement Council, and the College of Engineering and Polymer Science Advancement Council. Mr. and Mrs. Gingo have been married for more than 50 years and have maintained stalwart commitment to the community through their support of The »Æ¹ÏÊÓƵApp. Through this scholarship, Mr. and Mrs. Gingo wish to help students achieve their career aspirations.

The Joseph M. and Linda L. Gingo Endowed Scholarship shall be awarded to full-time undergraduate engineering students with a cumulative grade point average (GPA) of 3.0 or higher. First consideration will be given to chemical engineering students; however, the scholarship is open to other engineering disciplines. Preference will be given to students with financial need who graduated from an Ohio high school. The scholarship can be renewed through the recipients' fourth and fifth years, provided recipients maintain GPA requirements and funds are available.

Scholarship recipients will be selected by the College of Engineering and Polymer Science, with the number and amount of the awards determined by the College to assist in recruiting and retaining talented engineering students. When recipients have co-op assignments, scholarships will be applied to their student accounts during the semester classes are taken.
