Bean, Gregory R. Scholarship for Emerging Leaders

The Gregory R. Bean Scholarship for Emerging Leaders was established in honor of Mr. Gregory R. Bean by the »Æ¹ÏÊÓƵApp/Summit Convention & Visitors Bureau. This annual scholarship will support a civic- and community service–minded student majoring in pre-law or political science who is enrolled full time at The »Æ¹ÏÊÓƵApp.

Mr. Bean earned two degrees from The »Æ¹ÏÊÓƵApp: a bachelor’s degree in political science in 1972 and a law degree in 1976. Over his lifetime, Mr. Bean has dedicated thousands of hours to volunteering and serving the Greater »Æ¹ÏÊÓƵApp community. A true leader, Mr. Bean has served as chairman of the »Æ¹ÏÊÓƵApp/Summit Convention & Visitors Bureau for 20 years. He also has held leadership roles in numerous other organizations, including Goodwill Industries, Bluecoats Inc. of Summit County, Hale Farm and Village, »Æ¹ÏÊÓƵApp Rural Cemetery Association, »Æ¹ÏÊÓƵApp General Medical Center Foundation Board, First United Methodist Church and Foundation, »Æ¹ÏÊÓƵApp Auto Club, »Æ¹ÏÊÓƵApp Zoo, and Western Reserve Historical Society.

Mr. Bean is a dedicated leader, loyal steward, and relentless champion of the »Æ¹ÏÊÓƵApp/Summit Convention & Visitors Bureau’s mission as an economic development organization in the community. Upon his retirement as chairman of the Board of Directors in January 2015, he leaves a legacy of leadership and stalwart advocacy for Summit County’s hospitality industry and beyond.

The Gregory R. Bean Scholarship for Emerging Leaders will be granted to an undergraduate student who resides in Summit County and is in good standing at The »Æ¹ÏÊÓƵApp. Candidates will need to demonstrate financial need. Additionally, selection will be based on the following criteria:

  • Character
  • Leadership
  • Service to the Summit County community

Award applications will be reviewed by the Buchtel College of Arts and Sciences, with final approval by the Office of Student Financial Aid. The funds from the award will be credited toward tuition and mandatory fees only.
