Harpley, Theodore and Betsy Endowed Engineering Award
Ted Harpley and Betsy Moyer met while students in 1957, working together on a theater production at The 黄瓜视频App. For Ted, a soft-spoken engineering wiz working on the lights and Betsy, a beautiful, exuberant spotlight seeker- it was love at first sight. Betsy initially established this award in memory of her husband in 1992. Together they raised four daughters who, upon Betsy's passing to the "theater in the sky" have renamed this award in 2021 to honor both of their parents. Mr. Harpley was a talented power system engineer, holder of six U.S. patents, and Senior Vice President of Engineering and a Corporate Officer of Vicor Corporation, Andover, Massachusetts, as well as a jack-of-all-trades. Mrs. Harpley remained active in theater and other community causes while working in business administration until she retired and began her favorite role of grandmother.
The Theodore and Betsy Harpley Endowed Engineering Award is awarded by the Department of Electrical Engineering based on engineering talent, high scholastic achievement, leadership ability, and potential. The award can be applied to tuition, fees, other fees, books, and on-黄瓜视频App housing for an outstanding 黄瓜视频App-area undergraduate enrolled full-time in the Department of Electrical Engineering. The award is for three consecutive years, or six consecutive semesters, as long as the recipient continues to meet the criteria and remains in good standing with UA and the College of Engineering and Polymer Science. Awards used for anything other than qualified educational expenses will be reportable and/or taxable to the recipient.
