English, Dr. Kristina Scholarship in Audiology

The Dr. Kristina English Scholarship in Audiology was established in 2023 by Dr. Kristina English, Professor Emeritus at The »Æ¹ÏÊÓƵApp, to help offset the financial burden of second-year students in the Doctor of Audiology (Au.D.) program.

Dr. English received a Bachelor of Arts degree in Speech-Language Pathology and Audiology and a Master of Arts degree in Communication Disorders from San Diego State University. She received her Ph.D. degree in Education/Special Education from San Diego State University/Claremont Graduate University.

Dr. English has earned a national reputation as an effective, entertaining, and extremely knowledgeable instructor during her 30 years of teaching at the undergraduate and graduate levels. She is also well known and highly sought after as a speaker, indicated by the fact that Dr. English has given numerous professional refereed and invited presentations, seminars, workshops, and keynote addresses nationally and internationally.

Dr. English is known and respected for her ability to instruct students and audiologists in a manner that has a lasting impact, while challenging students and colleagues alike to engage in self-examination. Dr. English has been at the forefront of developing and sharing guidelines and solutions to many of the challenging issues faced by Au.D. programs. She served on the American Academy of Audiology Board of Directors and continues to participate in shaping the field as a founding member of the Cochlear Implant International Community of Action.

The Dr. Kristina English Scholarship in Audiology supports second-year students in the Doctor of Audiology (Au.D.) program. Applicants must submit a minimum 1,500-word paper on the topic "Cultural Humility in the Clinical Setting" to include:

  1. A summary of the impact of implicit bias on racial healthcare inequity in the United States, and
  2. A description of how clinicians can be change agents in addressing implicit bias in audiology care.

Applicants must also Include a reference section (not included in word count). Recipients will be chosen by a vote of the Audiology Faculty and will be reviewed annually by the Audiology Faculty for renewal of award and status. Scholarship funds can be used toward any qualified educational expense.
