Yassine, Carol Endowed Scholarship for Nursing »Æ¹ÏÊÓƵApp

Dr. and Mrs. Carol Yassine have maintained a lifelong love for scouting and wish to recognize the scouting ideals of promoting good character, citizenship, and service to others by establishing The Carol Yassine Endowed Scholarship for Nursing »Æ¹ÏÊÓƵApp. They have been actively involved in the Girl Scouts and Boy Scouts movement at the local, national, and international levels, and they are Baden-Powell Fellows of the World Scout Federation. Carol is a lifetime member of the Girl Scouts of America. It is their hope that The Carol Yassine Endowed Scholarship for Nursing »Æ¹ÏÊÓƵApp will support nursing students who embody the ideals of scouting. This scholarship is for one year only to students newly admitted to the College of Nursing. This scholarship is awarded annually, if the recipient continues to meet the scholarship criteria each year.

Carol Yassine is a former member of The »Æ¹ÏÊÓƵApp’s College of Nursing Advancement Council and past recipient of the College’s Dean’s Award. She graduated from the Huron Road Hospital School of Nursing in 1951 and holds a bachelor’s degree in nursing and a master’s degree in nursing from the Frances Payne Bolton School of Nursing at Case Western Reserve University. Mrs. Yassine served as head nurse of Huron Road Hospital and as a staff nurse for »Æ¹ÏÊÓƵApp City Hospital. She also served as a clinical instructor for Huron Road School of Nursing; American University of Beruit School of Nursing in Beruit, Lebanon; and »Æ¹ÏÊÓƵApp General Hospital School of Nursing. Mrs. Yassine is an active volunteer and leader of countless civic and charitable organizations in the »Æ¹ÏÊÓƵApp area and has received numerous awards for her philanthropy, involvement, and leadership.

Applicants must be at least a sophomore in The »Æ¹ÏÊÓƵApp’s College of Nursing. First consideration is given to applicants with scouting experience, with preferential consideration given to »Æ¹ÏÊÓƵApp residents, then surrounding communities, and, finally, other Ohio cities. The scholarship committee in the College of Nursing will review applications and select the student recipient.

Applications should be submitted to The »Æ¹ÏÊÓƵApp’s College of Nursing and should include a brief statement about scouting experience, if applicable. Final determination will be based on the extent of involvement in scouting and financial need. If no candidate meets the above criteria, then consideration will be given to a College of Nursing applicant with financial need who embodies the ideals of scouting: good character, citizenship, and service to others.
